🧮 What is Word Calculator?
It’s an application (“Semantic Calculator”) that lets you perform operations with words (not numbers), using semantic vectors. For example:
king − man + woman = queen
These are expressions where you subtract or add words to obtain another word that is semantically “related”.
⚙️ How does it work technically?
- Each word is represented as a vector in a semantic space, which allows measuring relationships and similarities between words.
- When you perform an operation like “A − B + C”, it takes the corresponding vectors, subtracts/adds them, and then searches for the word whose resulting vector is the closest.
- There are some limitations: it works better with nouns or words recognized by the model; some words may not be found (they are highlighted in red) if they are not in the vocabulary.
💡 What is it useful for / why is it interesting?
- It’s mainly an exploratory, playful tool to see meaning relationships, analogies between words, play with language, and observe how the AI “understands” certain concepts.
- It can be useful for demonstrations, thinking about semantic models, and inspiring ideas about how AI can capture meaning relationships between concepts.
- It’s also useful for people working with natural language (NLP), embeddings, language education, content creativity, etc.
